Week 3: Legislative Update

Friends, The 2017 Legislative Session is humming along as Georgia lawmakers begin the arduous task of vetting thousands of bills through the committee process. Advocacy Day at the Capitol Earlier in the week, I was encouraged to see one of my favorite parent advocates, Heidi J. Moore, during Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities‘Advocacy Day at the Capitol! I am proud to support their efforts for more DD waivers and funding for inclusive post secondary education for individuals with disabilities in Georgia. Beer Freedom Legislation  The question of allowing craft brewers to sell their beer to customers to go has been an ongoing debate in the General Assembly. SB 85 is compromise legislation introduced in the State Senate that will allow breweries to sell a case of beer to customers that they can take to go. Legislative Update- Week 2

Friends, After a week of budget hearings, the Georgia General Assembly reconvened last Monday to handle the business of the state. Celebrating Georgia Tourism, Hospitality, and Arts We kicked-off the week with Georgia Tourism, Hospitality, and Arts Day at the Capitol.  Georgia’s budding tourism industry generated $59 billion in 2015 and sustains more than 439,000 jobs statewide. Recently, National Geographic Travel included the Peach State as one of their “Best Trips” for 2017.  To learn more, click HERE. Honoring Georgia Physicians On Wednesday, state lawmakers honored our hardworking and highly trained physicians and listened to their ideas on how to make healthcare more affordable and accessible.  Given the doctor shortage that exists in our state, we must work to find ways to train more physicians and keep them in communities with pressing healthcare needs.  I am confident that lawmakers and providers can work together this legislative session to find real solutions that ensure a healthy, prosperous future for our citizens. 2017 Amended Budget...READ MORE
