Week 3: Legislative Update

February 10, 2017

The 2017 Legislative Session is humming along as Georgia lawmakers begin the arduous task of vetting thousands of bills through the committee process.

Advocacy Day at the Capitol

Earlier in the week, I was encouraged to see one of my favorite parent advocates, Heidi J. Moore, during Georgia Council on Developmental DisabilitiesAdvocacy Day at the Capitol! I am proud to support their efforts for more DD waivers and funding for inclusive post secondary education for individuals with disabilities in Georgia.

Beer Freedom Legislation

The question of allowing craft brewers to sell their beer to customers to go has been an ongoing debate in the General Assembly. SB 85 is compromise legislation introduced in the State Senate that will allow breweries to sell a case of beer to customers that they can take to go. I look forward to this legislation
working it’s way through the process and voting “yes” to pass it in the House.

Breakfast with Gov. Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal

Honored to attend a breakfast for Freshman Legislators with Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal at the Governor’s Mansion. We certainly appreciate the Governor and First Lady welcoming us into the General Assembly.  We discussed a variety of topics including education, juvenile justice reform, and the pending water wars case.

House Page Program

We have just a couple more open slots to serve as a page for the 2017 session.   If you have a son/daughter/grandchild who is 12-years old or older and would like to experience the Georgia Capitol – please encourage them to apply for the House Page Program!

You can send an email directly to my Administrative Assistant Tammy Warren to sign-up today: Tammy.Warren@house.ga.gov
